Pupil Premium & Free School Meals

The Pupil Premium funding grant (PPG) is allocated to children of members of HM Armed Forces, children from low-income families who are known to be eligible for free school meals and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. Its main aim is to narrow the disadvantage gap by addressing inequalities and raising the attainment of those students in low-income families.

From 2013 this also includes students eligible for FSM at any point in the last 6 years (known as Ever 6 FSM measure).

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However, schools will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support students from low income families. From September 2012 there has been requirement to publish online, information about how they have used the Pupil Premium. This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of students covered by the premium and the extra support they receive.

Children can receive a free school meal if their parents claim Income Support in the form of:

  •  Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run on’.

All students’ progress through Pupil Premium is tracked so we can see if any intervention is working. We fully support our Pupil Premium students to make sure that they are reaching their potential. If you are unsure whether your child is eligible for free school meals, please complete the form below.
