Medway Victory Sea Cadets was set up in 2018. This unit is available to all students at  The Victory Academy and  Holcombe Grammar School and yr 5 and 6 of local schools. At present, we have 50+ cadets from Year 7, 8,9 10 11 and Year 12 students who are now learning and experiencing the Sea Cadet Corps and all that it offers.

What to expect

At Medway Victory we aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the individuals they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, we learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of ourselves.

As well as the Sea Cadet Corps Training plan there are Activities including: Sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding ,rowing, archery, shooting, camping, and adventurous training with expedition training. We learn drill, armed drill and piping, seamanship, music such as drumming and marching band. We also learn first aid, engineering, catering and stewarding. Many of these learnings can lead to a BTEC level 1 and level 2 qualification. Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Silver and Gold Awards too.

You will be required to attend Unit regularly every week and can chose whether to join in with all the extra activities at weekends and holidays.

Training will lead to becoming a fully-fledged cadet, and then progressing through the ranks all the way to Petty Officer cadet all within the sea cadet promise:

“I promise to serve my God my Queen, My Country and the Sea Cadet Corps and to obey the orders of my superior Officers. I will be proud of my uniform and be smart and seaman like in wearing it and always do my duty.”

When and where?

Cadets are expected to regularly attend the unit on Monday or Thursday at 18:45-21:15 depending on their rank. Held at The Victory Academy in smart, tidy Cadet uniform provided for you, and to respect all the volunteer staff whilst attending and learning. Many external courses are available to cadets offering residential courses in sailing, engineering music and many other great opportunities. Often these are held residential on HMS Cavalier at the Chatham Dockyard.

We also offer a great path for adult volunteers and welcome people who have time to commit to the Unit on a regular basis or if you have Sea Cadet experience or qualifications in any of the above activities we would love to hear from you. As our Unit grows we also require more adult volunteers.

2021 Update

After winning the District Junior Swimming Competition and then the Area competition, we went on to win the District Junior Football and came 2nd in the Cadet District Football. Medals all round. Now we are training for the District Drill and Piping competition in March 2020.

After 18 months of some unusual Unit times, we have come through this and are proud to be parading over 50 cadets in September 2021.

Many virtual Unit evenings over zoom – some amazing results – 6 achieving their arts award Bronze. Most of the Unit building their own Knot Boards to some amazing standards.

Playing battleships and unit created kahoots also many  great cadet training evenings and weekends allowing many to still progress with their training and be promoted in February at out Unit presentation evening. Yes on zoom but received well . We also welcomed many guests to our Unit zooms visiting to see just how we carried out these sessions and to follow some of our examples.

A great year with getting out on the water our main aim once able to be back outdoors at our Unit – every cadet had at least 4 weeks kayaking, paddleboarding sailing from May through to September .plus our cadet training evenings as well.
