Reading Mentors

At Holcombe, everyone understands that reading is power. Across the entire curriculum, students who read for pleasure out perform their peers who do not.

But a reading culture is not possible without its role models. The Holcombe reading community was inspired by the warm and motivating words of the Year 12 Reading Peer Mentors as they presented awards to the Year 7 students who undertook the programme and have been working hard to take responsibility for their personal reading and to get into great habits.

We have not only seen academic progress in reading since the programme’s inception but increased engagement and enjoyment in reading. It is the latter that will have the legacy throughout the rest of their school journey and beyond.

A huge well done to all involved.
