Students from Holcombe Grammar Sixth Form recently took part in a highly successful visit to the Bank of England and a guided tour of London’s Financial District. Throughout the day, students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating excellent conduct, strong engagement, and a genuine curiosity for their subjects. They asked insightful questions, linking their learning directly to both their A-Level Economics and Business courses.
A standout moment for many was the opportunity to hold a 13kg gold bar, with an estimated value of around £1.4 million, bringing to life the scale and significance of global financial systems. The visit to the Bank of England provided students with a clear, visual understanding of its role and influence within the UK economy.
The guided tour further enhanced this experience, offering students insight into the importance of London’s financial institutions, including the Royal Exchange, and the historical role of coffee houses as early centres of trade; laying the foundations for modern stock exchanges.
Overall, the trip was a highly productive and enriching experience, allowing students to deepen their understanding beyond the classroom and see first-hand how theory translates into real-world practice.
