Remembrance Day 2020

January 18, 2022 08:51am

Students were able to wear their cadet/scout uniforms as a mark of respect for Remembrance Day on 11th November. It was a great source of pride to see so many students in their uniforms for the occasion. A whole school two minutes’ silence was also observed, and poppies were available to purchase in various places around the School.

Meanwhile, our Year 7 and 8 pupils worked incredibly well to contribute artistic reflections for a Remembrance Day display. Students were asked to create an image, collage or artefact to signify the poppy appeal. Students and teachers alike will find the display shown proudly in the atrium. Over fifty students participated in Year 7. The winners have now been announced.

Remembrance Display

On the right is an entry from one of Year 8 winners, Richard. Richard’s hand painted Poppy aims to signify not only the meaning behind the poppy appeal but also the emotions felt by those at the end of wartime. His ornate poppy shows multiple characters and concepts within the traditional and well-known poppy symbol.

On the left is the entry from our next Year 8 winner, Emmanuel. His detailed hand-drawn poppy sketch is simplistic but packs a real punch showcasing the intricate and delicate nature of these flowers.

This entry is the entry from our final Year 8 winner, Callum. Callum juxtaposes the vibrant red of the poppies with a grey landscape to show how the natural beauty of these flowers shines through any dull day.

These are some of the powerful entries from Year 7. Well done, Years 7 and 8!
