Students and staff at Holcombe Grammar School, located on Letchworth Avenue, Chatham, and part of Thinking Schools Academy Trust, are rejoicing after receiving their A-Level grades.
This year, despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, students have excelled, and the academy is celebrating a year of very strong results for students. Many students are now preparing to head on to the university, apprenticeship or job of their choice.
The School saw particular success in subjects including English Language and Literature, Physical Education, Law, Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Fine Art and Photography.
While all students have done well, there are some standout individual achievements. These include:
- Dominic Frost who successfully achieved 4 A*’s in Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Spanish and has secured a place to study Mathematics at the University of Manchester
- Anton Hodgetts who successfully achieved A, A*, A*, A* in Computer Science, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics and has secured a place to study Physics at the prestigious Oxford University
- Harry Walsh who successfully achieved 3 A*’s in English Language and Literature, Media Studies and Religious Studies and has secured a place to study Philosophy at University College London
- Luke Yaxley who successfully achieved 3 A*’s in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and has secured a place to study Medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School
- Sameeha Begum who successfully achieved A, A*, A* in History, Psychology and Sociology and has secured a place to study Psychology with Clinical Psychology at the University of Kent
- Alyssia Clarke who successfully achieved A*, A*, A in Business Studies, Psychology and Sociology and has secured a place to study Psychology with Neuroscience at the University of Reading
- Aliona Kolesnikova who successfully achieved A*, A*, A in Politics, History and Religious Studies and has secured a place to study Fashion Journalism at the University of the Arts London
- Anabel Page who successfully achieved A*, A, A* in English Language and Literature, Law and Media Studies and has secured a place to study Law at the University of York
- Jessica Paige William who successfully achieved A*, A*, A in Law, Politics and Spanish and has secured a place to study Law at Durham University
- Joshua Coleman who successfully achieved A, A, A*, A in Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics. Joshua has deferred his place for a year at the University of Southampton, and will study Mathematics, commencing in September 2022
- Zayn Hussain who successfully achieved A*, A, A in Business Studies, English Literature and Geography and has secured a place to study Law at the University of Birmingham
- Athena Monteiro-Scutt who successfully achieved A, A*, A in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and has secured a place to study Physics at the University of Manchester.
- Curtis Burch who successfully achieved 4 A’s in Business Studies, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and has secured a place to study Chemistry at University College London
- Connor Lewis who successfully achieved 3 A’s in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and has secured a place to study Chemistry at Kings College London
- Samuel Hake who successfully achieved Distinction*, A, A in Applied Science, Photography and Physical Education and has secured a place to study Paramedic Science at the University of Northampton
Due to the pandemic, the Government made the decision that this year, young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work they had produced throughout their courses. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards who awarded the final grades.
Collecting his A Level results today, Dominic Frost said: “I am really thrilled with these results and really grateful to the school for all the support they have given me over the years. I am looking forward now to going to the University of Manchester to study mathematics.”

They have worked so hard over the last two years and faced all the challenges of the pandemic in their stride. To see them receive the grades they deserve and be able to progress onto their next steps is fantastic.
