Lee Preston, Principal

“I am excited to showcase everything our amazing school has to offer. Here at HGS our students grow into successful, well-rounded, confident people.

“As a Thinking School, my team and I equip them for life so they can thrive in a world outside of academia, we develop their understanding of how they process everyday life, setting them up for success.

“Every student is encouraged to ‘Be Your Best Self’, it’s not just about celebrating attainment at HGS but the journey that got them there. We recognise the achievements of all our students.

“Sports is close to our heart and we offer a diverse range with our excellent facilities, including a newly refurbished sports hall, on-site gym, and new 3G pitch. Plus, for future endeavors our sixth formers can join our APD Football Academy, and train weekly to be in with a chance to play the organised Showcase Matches against Premier League clubs such as West Ham and Charlton.

“So, without further ado, please take a look around, watch our videos, visit our school; discover Holcombe Grammar School and get to know us! Enjoy…”

Top three things you need to know about Our Trust

1. WHO THEY ARE: You may hear us referring to our Trust as TSAT, this stands for Thinking Schools Academy Trust. Affectionately nicknamed Our Trust, it’s effectively the family name for the 17 schools in Our Trust, The schools within Our Trust are situated across Medway, Deal and Hampshire.

2. WHY A THINKING SCHOOL IS THE ONE FOR YOUR CHILD: A Thinking School challenges students to think deeply about their thinking, to be their best self and to gain the knowledge, tools and skills to shape their success in a life beyond school. The children and young people we’re presently educating will retire around 2070. According to experts most of the jobs our children will have don’t even exist yet, and this is why developing skills to think independently and become life-long learners is so important.

3. HOW A THINKING SCHOOL WORKS: Our cognitive approach to education defines us but does not create a ‘one size fits all’. Each and every member of the TSAT family is equally as important and shares a direction and ethos; put simply, we believe that we are stronger together. Our schools work with each student so they are aspirational and ready to move forward and understand their role within their local community and beyond. The Thinking School approach to education is unique and we believe that it genuinely transforms the life chances of our children, teaching them the critical thinking skills they need to be resilient in life after school.

Our GCSE and A Level results speak for themselves

Principal Lee Preston says; “At GCSE nearly 40% of all grades were 7 and above and 87% of students achieve a grade 5 or above in all of their subjects. The amazing results our Year 11s achieved has resulted in us now having the largest Year 12 cohort in our Sixth Form in recent years.

“At A level 32% of grades were an A or A* and 65% were an A*,A or B grade. These fantastic results have meant that every single student who applied to go to University has secured a place, including 3 students who have secured places at Oxford University and Cambridge University for the coming year. All in all, our 2020 results were excellent!.”
