Upcoming Events

Year 9 Parents’ Evening will be held Thursday 6th February, 4:30pm-6:30pm.

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3 you will study National Curriculum levels 5, 6 and 7, and the most able will progress to material at Level 8. Your Mathematics lessons will include a wide range of activities – we do practical work, group work, investigations and use plenty of ICT to support your learning. We even sometimes find ourselves doing some Mathematics outdoors!

Your teachers will work hard to show you how Mathematics crops up in the wider world; there is a strong emphasis on making Mathematics practical and relevant to you. We offer a Mathematics Clinic which you can attend to get help with your work or just to get some extra practice.

We in the Mathematics department are a team of enthusiastic teachers and we will inspire you to be independent and confident learners. You are encouraged to be good communicators and to engage in mathematical dialogue with us and your peers habitually. The more you enquire the deeper your understanding will be!

We enter a selection of students into the Junior Mathematics Challenge – a national competition where you will need to draw on your mental arithmetic and problem solving skills to be awarded gold, silver or bronze. You may even do well enough to progress to the next rounds!

A wide variety of careers are available with a qualification in Mathematics. Opportunities exist in areas such as banking, pharmaceuticals, oil, retailing, accountancy, management consultancy or in the utilities. A qualification in Mathematics is essential for careers in different branches of science, technology and engineering, and will also support courses in many areas such as Economics, Business and Finance.
