Uniform Expectations


Uniform & Equipment

Maintaining high standards of uniform is an important part of the overall aspirations at Holcombe Grammar School.  Instilling high standards teaches students to comply with a dress code which will be an important workplace skill for them in later life. Most importantly, our uniform reflects our identity as a community and encourages students to take pride in themselves and their school.

Our expectations:

School Uniform

YEARS 7-11

  • Grey (Year 7 to Year 11) or black (Year 9 to Year 11 only) Holcombe blazer with badge
  • Shirt – plain white long or short sleeved (Year 7-Year 10); Grey shirt (Year 11)
  • Holcombe tie
  • Charcoal grey (Year 7 to Year 11) or black (Year 9 to Year 11 only) tailored trousers – no casual style or material
  • Black/grey socks
  • Shoes – plain black formal shoes (no boots, canvas shoes, branded shoes or trainers allowed)
  • Coat (Plain colour, no logos)
  • Head covering (when worn, this is to be for religious reasons only)

All trousers should be tailored.  Any other style is considered incorrect and not permitted in school.

PE Kit

  • Holcombe PE top
  • Holcombe PE shorts
  • Holcombe Rugby top
  • Black socks

All students are expected to arrive at the Academy with the minimum equipment required for learning. Extra equipment may be required for specific lessons:

  • School bag
  • Black, blue and green pens
  • Pencils
  • Ruler
  • Scientific calculator
  • Protractor
  • Colouring pencils
  • Eraser
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Contact Book – supplied by the school
  • Reward Card – supplied by the school

General Appearance

  • Hairstyles should be appropriate and not contain exaggerated colours, styles or adornments
  • No hats, hoods, caps or other head coverings are to be worn in school other than for religious purposes
  • If belts are to be worn they must be discrete and appropriate
  • No badges are to be worn other than those that are issued by the school
  • Jewellery should not be worn, other than a practical watch
  • Earrings, visible piercings and rings should be removed before arrival at school
  • Students are expected to maintain full uniform and a smart appearance on their journey to and from school.

Should your child arrive to school with incorrect uniform, you will be contacted by telephone and they may be sent home.  Your child’s attendance will be recorded as unauthorised.  We appreciate your support in working with us to ensure that students come to school well-presented and in correct uniform.  Should you have any queries please contact your child’s Head of Year

Mobile Phones and Electronic Devices

Students are permitted to bring mobile phones and other electronic devices into school at their own risk. All devices must be switched off and out of sight during the school day, unless express permission to use the device has been given by a member of staff. If a student is found to be in breach of this regulation their phone or electronic device will be removed from them and placed in the office until the end of the day. Under no circumstances will the school accept responsibility for any theft or loss.

Prohibited Items

The following items are not allowed on the Academy site:

  • Chewing Gum
  • Fidget toys (unless authorised and agreed by SEN department)
  • Energy Drinks
