Dockyard Visit Hits the Mark
The annual Year 7 visit to the Dockyard – as part of the Holcombe Maritime project took on particular local significance as it coincided with the Battle of Medway exhibition.
Students were enthused by the tour guides and educators at the Dockyard who gave talks about HMS Gannet, HMS Cavalier and the submarine HMS Ocelot – on the vessels themselves. They were also pleased to take part in rope-making; taking their own hand made samples away from the longest brick built room in Europe.
The most interactive part of the day was arguably the Physics lesson that involved the designing, creating – and firing- of missiles. The images here show the team work of the students and head boy as they prepared their missiles for launch. Only the most scientifically designed efforts would be successful. Watch some of the video clips as the teams went into to competition to find the most accurate missiles.
