School governors perform a really important task in helping schools in their endeavours to improve through their
support and also by providing challenge to ensure that the best possible actions are being taken by the school.
Holcombe Grammar School is currently looking for interested parents to become members of its Academy Advisory
Board. This is a group of parents, members of the local community and staff who meet three times per year to discuss
things such as academic achievement, recruitment, improving attendance and many other issues.
I would like to invite you to put your name forward to become a member of this important group of people. Your
primary objective should be to support the school and you need to be willing to get involved in discussions regarding a
whole range of school issues. Experience of school governance is not required but you will need to be keen to learn
about how schools operate. You will also need to be available three times per year to attend meetings in the late
afternoon/early evening which typically last between 1 ½ and 2 hours. I have attached a copy of the Trust’s Advisory
Board Handbook to provide you with more details of what is involved and I would be very happy to speak with you if you
have any questions.
There are three places available for parents on the Board. If you would like to put yourself forward then please complete
the slip below and return to Mrs Tanner at the school. Alternatively please email your interest to
email@example.com. Closing date for replies is Friday 27th January. Should more than three
parents put themselves forward, an election will be held to determine the successful parties. Please do not hesitate to
contact me if you would like to discuss.
